WHY THE 2008 ELECTION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION OF YOUR LIFETIME

(AND THAT OF YOUR GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL)

As you know, I don’t like hyperbole, let alone histrionics or melodrama, to make a point. That said, I don’t think that I am exaggerating in the slightest when I say that the 2008 election is the most important election in my lifetime (and yours). And because of its importance I believe that the election of Barack Obama would be a defining moment in the declining fortunes of not just America, but of all of Western Civilization.

Why is it so important? For what seems to be an obvious threat to our survival as a civilization — obvious, that is, to everyone but the Democratic Party (who is either so obsessed with power as not to care about national security or so out of touch with reality as to be oblivious to the threat). You will recall that John Edwards, the ex-Senatorial hairball, labeled our efforts against terror as deserving of little more mention than that of a bumper sticker. How’s that for a profound insight? Recall that Toynbee observed that great civilizations are not murdered; they commit suicide. And, judging from the degree to which we are divided in this country, one might reasonably ask the question can such behavior, given the circumstances, be reasonably considered as a significant step in a suicidal direction? I think it can, and, under the circumstances, I consider the conduct of the leadership of the Democratic Party deplorable. In Edwards’s case perhaps he may have altered his thinking, at least to the point of possibly considering a reporter from the National Enquirer as a terrorist.
