A Looming Problem For Obama — No One Left To Apologize To!!

I must confess that I am a bit upset by American leaders who go abroad to engage in America bashing. For example, Clinton’s going to Africa and apologizing for slavery, and then going to the Middle East to lend credibility to the notion that Arab displeasure with modernity, in general, and America, in particular, finds some support in the Crusades. I thought this gesture at self-serving humility was in extraordinarily bad taste. And both unfair and unbalanced — and, most of all, unnecessary. It doesn’t wash away our sins any more than it would if many of our allies and former enemies copped to their bad deeds. Unnecessary, also, because we have more than made up for our indiscretions with our abundant generosity to various and assorted haves and have-nots throughout the world.

But Clinton’s gesture has been rendered trivial, if not insignificant, by Obama’s labors in this area. Obama has circled the globe in search of new audiences to apologize to for America’s “arrogance”, “dismissiveness”, “derisiveness”, and assorted other acts of indifference to the cause of friends and foes alike. It has been a truly galling display of selling out his own country — a phony gesture to secure his personal popularity at the price of embarrassing America.

Never did Obama make any effort to present an accurate view of our past, let alone a balanced one. He prepared America’s balance sheet, listed our alleged liabilities, and then went before the world with this assessment of America’s net worth. It is the equivalent of your C.P.A. preparing a balance sheet for you with only your liabilities on it, and then telling you that that is your net worth (of course, that is exactly how the left in this country views America). Not only would that tell you that you have the wrong accountant, but let me assure you that the professional board that presides over his qualifications would take action to remove his license.

What does this globe-hurdling apology tour stem from - 3 things: (1) Obama’s massive conceit in that he thinks that there is no situation so badly damaged that his soothing words cannot heal it, (2) his incredible naivet
