You may think that the men and women described in my previous 3 columns are atypical, i.e., the degree of their anti-American sentiments do not represent the vast body of academics that populate the humanities departments in our universities. I only wish that this were the case; while their view of 9/11—i.e. that our government did it—is indeed extreme (and demented), their general view—that America is the cause of the world’s problems—is fairly typical. But there are two individuals who do stand out with respect to this anti-American view of the world; they are Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn, and I want to bring them to your attention in the next couple of columns. Why? Because these two—who have been at it for more than 40 years—are the cornerstone of the academic anti-American edifice that was constructed soon after the Vietnam war and that has become the guiding force in almost all of the humanities departments in our universities - and, in particular, our history departments.
